“We are facing a housing affordability crisis and Americans deserve vision and concrete, workable policies from the individuals vying for the White House. While tonight’s debate did not delve into the intricacies of national housing policy, a few of the candidates have put forth thoughtful approaches to address this growing challenge. However, it is discouraging that some continue to embrace failed policies like rent control, which will exacerbate housing affordability challenges by driving up costs on families already facing too many difficult choices.
“The right way to give Americans the relief they deserve is through policies aimed at addressing the imbalance between housing supply and demand along with targeted assistance for families struggling to make ends meet. Until housing supply catches up with demand, too many Americans will be squeezed by unaffordable costs.”
