NMHC’s Foundations for Rental Housing will be featured prominently throughout the event with the goal of highlighting principles supporting resident and rental housing providers.
NMHC is proud to once again sponsor and participate in HUD’s Innovative Housing Showcase initiative. The Showcase, presented by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), will take place from June 4 through June 9 in Washington, D.C. on the National Mall.
The Showcase is a public event to raise awareness of innovative and affordable housing designs and technologies that have the potential to increase housing supply, lower the cost of construction, increase energy efficiency and resilience, and reduce housing expenses.
This is the fourth year of NMHC’s involvement in HUD’s Innovative Housing Showcase. The Showcase will include panel discussions, receptions and exhibits. NMHC is set to participate in several aspects of the event and will be highlighting its Foundations for Rental Housing as well as organizing a panel discussion entitled Innovation in Multifamily Development and Resident Experience. The panel will feature Alecia Hill, Vice President - Impact Investments, FCP, Hugh Frater, Chairman, Vessel Technologies, Gustavo Cabrera, Director Business Development, Resia, Brady Nolan, Chief Business Officer, Flexible Rent and Ofo Ezeugwu, CEO and Founder, Whose Your Landlord.
“Rental housing providers are working hard to alleviate the national housing shortage and make housing more affordable. Over 4.3 million apartments in all 50 states and D.C. have adopted the Foundations of Rental Housing - a set of six business principles that residents can expect from their rental housing provider,” said Sharon Wilson Géno, NMHC President. “The Foundations of Rental Housing, powered by NMHC, is proud to partner with HUD on the Innovative Housing Showcase with the goal of highlighting real, actionable solutions to our housing crisis.”
NMHC’s Foundations for Rental Housing was born out of our commitment to the Biden administration to develop businesses practices that support both residents and rental housing providers. NMHC supports the administration’s efforts to expand housing supply as highlighted in the White House’s Housing Supply Action Plan.
The country needs to build 4.3 million more apartments by 2035 to keep up with housing demand. NMHC continues to partner with organizations like HUD, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and other groups committed to lowering housing costs to find and act on solutions that expand housing supply and increase housing equity and opportunity.
On Tuesday June 4th, HUD and co-presenters will hold a press preview with Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman at 10am on the National Mall near 12th Street and Jefferson Drive (by Smithsonian Metro Station). If you are a reporter and would like to attend, please contact HUD’s Senior Advisor for Innovation, Policy Development and Research Tanaya Srini at Tanaya.Srini@hud.gov.
Additionally, please join NMHC, HUD and other presenters on Thursday and Friday, June 6 and 7, for programming and policy panels and discussions at the District Architecture Center (421 7th St NW, Washington, DC 20004) from 9:30-5:00pm. NMHC will be hosting a panel discussion, Innovation in Multifamily Development and Resident Experience, on June 7 at 11:30 AM ET.
