Longtime Industry Leader Now Viewing 2022 to Step Down
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Doug Bibby, the veteran president of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) has announced that he will delay his departure until NMHC’s 2022 Annual Meeting.
Over the two decades that Bibby has helmed NMHC, he has played a key role in the transformation of the industry into an institutionalized asset class, navigated the financial crisis, led successful advocacy campaigns across a number of issue areas and worked tirelessly to make the industry more diverse.
Today, at the behest of NMHC officers and due to his dedication to NMHC members and staff, Bibby has announced that he will remain with the multifamily industry’s leading trade association for another year to help its leaders steer a path through the pandemic, nascent economic recovery and social and racial inequity that have all presented the sector with new challenges.
“Doug’s leadership, experience and savvy – developed through years at the helm of NMHC – have proven invaluable as the industry confronts some of the most demanding circumstances any of us have faced,” said David Schwartz, Chair of NMHC’s Board of Officers. “While we had hoped that we would have been able to take this time to bid adieu to Doug in a manner befitting his services to the multifamily sector, instead he has agreed to continue to be our standard-bearer as we deal with serious risks from Capitol Hill to Main Street, and as we grapple with the new paradigms we are all facing.
“I speak for my fellow NMHC officers and members when I say we are grateful to Doug for his willingness to continue to work alongside us through these times.”
NMHC’s Officers will work with executive search firm, Russell Reynolds Associates, to help identify the best candidate for the CEO role in time. The Council hopes to introduce its new president at its January 2022 Annual Meeting.
