NMHC staff and other real estate colleagues meet with House Financial Services Chair Maxine Waters (D-CA) during NMHC PAC virtual roundtable.
This week, NMHC Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Cindy Chetti and NMHC Vice President of Government Affairs Kevin Donnelly hosted a real estate roundtable to honor one of the most powerful women in Congress, House Financial Services Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA).
Chetti and Donnelly were joined by several D.C.-based real estate industry colleagues for an in-depth discussion with the Chairwoman on housing, capital markets and insurance related issues.
Chairwoman Waters has more than 20 years of experience and expertise on financial services issues and has made history as the first woman and first African American to hold the Chair’s gavel on the House Financial Services Committee.
NMHC continues to advocate on behalf of the multifamily industry on issues under the purview of the Committee. And with Chetti at the helm, the industry’s message is surely being heard. During the call, Waters referred to Chetti as “THE expert on housing issues in Washington,” citing their many years of working together on Capitol Hill. Before coming to NMHC, Chetti worked for the House Financial Services Committee as the lead on housing related issues.
With the Democrats in control of the House of Representatives, they are moving forward with a robust agenda that includes issues impactful to the multifamily industry. The NMHC government affairs team was pleased with the inclusion of over $50 billion in rental assistance in the past two COVID relief packages—a result of months of strong lobbying efforts. The work continues on a variety of issues including infrastructure, tax policy, credit screening, data privacy and the reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program.
The NMHC PAC will continue to host these exclusive roundtables to provide direct conversations with top lawmakers on Capitol Hill. The PAC remains focused on supporting members of Congress who are working to find bipartisan solutions that benefit the multifamily industry and our nation’s 40 million apartment renters.
