On April 30, NMHC received a response to its March 31 coalition letter concerning the Federal Housing Finance Agency’s directive that would require Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (Enterprises) to implement revised radon testing protocols.
While expressing support for measures that protect the health of multifamily residents, the coalition letter urged FHFA to conduct an analysis of the feasibility, efficacy and cost-effectiveness of the proposed revisions and to establish a reasonable and transparent process for considering a new radon testing protocol.
FHFA's response can be found here.
NMHC is encouraged that FHFA acknowledged many of our concerns. And, as stated in the letter, that “FHFA recognizes the need for a reasonable and transparent process to establish new radon protocols, implement the standards successfully and mitigate against the possibility of market disruption.” We look forward to continuing to work with FHFA as they seek to establish workable radon policies that also achieve the goal of protecting the health and wellbeing of multifamily residents.
