This week, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge was confirmed as the eighteenth Secretary of Housing and Urban Development which has jurisdiction over a many of the programs and policy issues important to the multifamily industry.
NMHC congratulated Secretary Fudge on her confirmation, noting that on behalf of the nation’s rental housing industry “we look forward to working with Secretary Fudge and her team to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19, provide critically needed support to apartment residents and housing providers, and address the housing affordability crisis, which has only been exacerbated by the pandemic.”
In remarks following her swearing in by Vice President Harris, Secretary Fudge stated that “To provide relief for those struggling to pay their rent or mortgage as a result of the pandemic,” as one of her top priorities. The full text of her remarks following her swearing in can be found here.
NMHC looks forward to working with Secretary Fudge and her team to make sure that those facing financial distress due to the pandemic can easily and efficiently access the rental assistance funds included in recently passed stimulus legislation so that residents remain safely and securely housed and the nation’s rental housing sector remains stable. We also look forward to partnering with her and the Biden Administration to address this nation’s housing affordable crisis.
