Dear NMHC Members,
As the COVID-19 virus spreads across the country, apartment firms are developing and executing plans to respond should a resident or employee become infected. And many of you have asked us for guidance. NMHC is actively communicating with the White House, CDC and other federal agencies to monitor the situation, both in terms of sharing information with our members and deciding whether to proceed with our own meetings.
NMHC Resources
To help inform your communications and operations amid this virus, NMHC has several resources that we will continue to update.
- NMHC Landing Page: Coronavirus Preparedness for Apartment Firms
Outlines basic steps firms should take from an emergency preparedness perspective, including labor policies and procedures, legal liabilities, fitness center operations and more.
- NMHC Landing Page: Coronavirus Resources for Apartment Firms
Links to federal agency resources as well as documents addressing resident communications, cleaning protocols, workers rights and more.
- NMHC Landing Page: Emergency Preparedness
Offers general advice in planning for any emergency.
Talk to Each Other - NMHC Listserve
In addition, I want to remind you of NMHC’s Emergency Preparedness Listserve. This is a group where you can share resources (member communications, cleaning protocols, travel guidance, etc) as well as ask questions of your fellow practitioners.
Learn more about how to sign up or have your relevant staff sign up here.
We, as an industry, have been here before, having confronted the Ebola outbreak, the 2009 pandemic flu as well as SARS and H1N1. With every challenge we can learn more and refine our processes to make sure we are protecting our key constituencies – our residents and our employees. NMHC will continue to strive to keep you informed so you can achieve that goal.
Best,
Doug Bibby
