There have been several hard-fought special elections since Congress started their work in January. Most visible was the race to fill for Congressman Tom Price’s seat in Georgia’s sixth district. The Republican candidate, Karen Handel, won a close contest and will be the newest member of the 115th Congress. Kansas, Montana and South Carolina also held special elections and Republicans won each of these traditionally conservative districts while Democrats were victorious in the California 34th. Despite these hard-fought battles, the end results yielded no change to the party make-up of Congress.
NMHC’s government affairs team monitors and selectively participates in open contests like these just as NMHC PAC provides the resources to support our industry's legislative champions and to build relationships with new Members of Congress.
Our advocacy efforts and NMHC PAC strategy focus on working with lawmakers -regardless of party - who understand the issues facing the multifamily industry. Capitol Hill turns to NMHC PAC for assistance and support given its leadership among real estate PACs. Compared to other association PACs, NMHC PAC is ranked 2nd in disbursements to federal candidates and 3rd in funds raised. Allied Members of Congress know they can rely on our steadfast support.
