No doubt there are many distractions in Washington these days, including the fight over U.S. Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland, the presidential campaign and party convention planning. However, as always, NMHC remains laser focused on keeping the concerns of the multifamily industry front and center.
As highlighted recently in outreach to NMHC membership, Clyde Holland, chairman and CEO of Holland Partner Group, testified on Capitol Hill last month before a subcommittee of the House Financial Services Committee on the challenge of meeting the increasing demand for multifamily homes for millions of working Americans.
During the hearing entitled, “The Future of Housing in America: Government Regulations and the High Cost of Housing,” Holland outlined the key reasons why America faces a growing affordability problem - stagnant wages, a supply-demand imbalance and numerous hurdles and regulations in developing new apartments - along with potential solutions. This is the type of opportunity where NMHC was able to effectively educate members of Congress on the importance our industry.
The advocacy work of NMHC is complemented by the role of the NMHC PAC. The PAC’s mission is to support the apartment industry's legislative goals and educate Congress about multifamily housing issues. Funds are raised from NMHC members and then utilized to assist with electing and reelecting our industry's legislative champions. Ultimately, this enables NMHC’s legislative team to establish and continue to build relationships with the members of Congress who will play critical roles on issues that affect our industry.

Contributions to NMHC PAC are not deductible for federal income tax purposes. Contributions to NMHC PAC are voluntary. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal. Contributions to NMHC PAC will be used in connection with federal elections and are subject to the limitations and prohibitions of federal law. The proposed contribution amounts are merely suggestions; you may choose to contribute more or less or not at all. The maximum an individual may contribute is $5,000 per calendar year. Corporate and foreign national contributions are prohibited. Federal law requires political committees to use best efforts to obtain and report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer for each individual whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in a calendar year.
