Ultimately, concerns and questions abound when thinking through how home sharing and multifamily communities can coexist, yet at NMHC’s 2015 OPTECH Conference, Airbnb made the case that home sharing could be a mutually beneficial relationship for all parties involved. They outlined their early vision of what a partnership between the multifamily industry and their short-term rental would look like.
It’s widely expected that Airbnb will formalize this program in the near future and unveil further details about several proposals they discussed with NMHC members previously. The proposals include revenue sharing potential, addressing safety and security concerns, and providing liability protections for apartment owners.
As the home sharing sector becomes more mature and looks for ways to partner with apartment owners and operators, NMHC is attempting to collect as much input as possible about home sharing and its presence in apartment communities.
