The
District of Columbia’s Department of Transportation and the District’s Office
of Planning recently released an in-depth multifamily parking study.
Specifically, the research focuses on the development of a better understanding
of how the use of parking in multifamily buildings relates to neighborhood and
building characteristics -- providing valuable insight into factors that drive
parking supply decisions.
According to the data:
- On average, only 60 percent of parking stalls are being used;
- Parking supply is the variable that correlates most with parking utilization, accounting for 66 percent of the variation in observed parking utilization; and
- Other building variables were found to be statistically significant as well, including parking price, average rent and unit size.
