The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has produced new promotional materials to help owners of properties that have earned the ENERGY STAR label to promote that fact. The materials can be co-branded and individually tailored to specific properties. EPA has also published a guide to help educate potential renters of the value of renting at an energy efficient property.
The Multifamily ENERGY STAR label is a relatively new entrant to the field of ENERGY STAR certifications, having launched in 2014. In the office sector, an ENERGY STAR designation is an important marketing point of distinction. With these new marketing materials, EPA is hoping to help apartment firms fully benefit from the elite designation-an award the only the top quartile of energy efficient buildings receive.
A recent study by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) underscores the value in promoting the ENERGY STAR label as well as units that include ENERGY STAR appliances. According to CEE, a growing number of consumers recognize and consider the ENERGY STAR label when making purchasing decisions. In fact, in 2015, 83 percent of households recognized the ENERGY STAR label, and 71 percent knowingly purchased ENERGY STAR labeled products. The study also found that consumers strongly associate ENERGY STAR labeled-products with "energy efficiency/savings, lower cost of operation and environmental benefits.
